Worcester-Bosch is a UK-based boiler manufacturer who have been making boilers for nearly 50 years. Worcester-Bosch has transformed from a small engineering company in the 60s to a household name with their boilers and various other kitchen appliances being installed in homes nationwide.

Will the Worcester Bosch 4000 be suitable for my home?  The 4000 Lifestyle is a direct replacement from the Greenstar range. It comes in two outputs, 25kw & 30kw making it most suited to smaller properties. If you need more power, the 8000 range goes up to 45kw, although you should never need that amount of energy in a domestic installation.

Controls. The Worcester 4000 has a user interface on the front, which has all the usual boiler controls to switch off the boiler or lower its temperature. Due to the simplicity of the 4000’s control panel, it’s now easier for an engineer to be able to diagnose faults when they occur, so you’ll spend less time waiting for an engineer to fix the boiler when it breaksdown. The build of the boiler itself is also relatively simple, which makes replacing parts and finding spare parts easier. Worcester Bosch offer a wide range of controls from mechanical to smart options. In addition to its control panel, you have the option of using a Smart Thermostat to have all of the control of managing your heating and hot water from a smartphone app.

Size.  Considering it’s modest output, the Worcetser 4000 is quite large and heavy. If you need the 8000, it’s advisable to use two people to lift the appliance on to the wall. The 4000 will just squeeze in to a cupboard, although there will be very little room left to work on the applinace.

Warranty. Each Worcester Bosch boiler model from the Lifestyle range comes with a standard 5-year warranty free of charge for your peace of mind. A lot like Vaillant’s Advanced Installer extended warranty offer, Worcester Bosch offers extended warranties if your boiler is installed by a Worcester Accredited Installer.

Energy Efficiency. The 4000 is definitely a “green” boiler, with an ErP (Energy-related Products) rating of 93%, which is an A grade for efficiency. So, in addition to incredible performance, you will start saving money on your energy bills while playing your part in the reduction of carbon emissions.

Vaillant ecoTec plus

Vaillant’s ecoTec Plus combi boiler is a popular choice for those with small to mid-sized properties. Founded in Germany in 1874, Vaillant is one of Europe’s largest boiler manufacturers. Precision German-engineering complimented by high quality materials is the name of the game on Vaillant’s product lines.

Will the Vaillant ecoTec Plus be suitable for my home? The Vaillant ecoTec Plus combi boiler  range comes in various outputs ranging from 25 – 38kw that can supply enough hot water for homes with up to 5 bedrooms and three bathrooms with one shower installed. If you have a larger home, or more than one bathroom and you’re considering a combi boiler installation for the first time, it’s important that you have a proper site survey completed so the eningeer can asses the incomming water, and discuss any limitations regarding the water supply.

Controls. The ecoTec Plus has a standard control panel installed on the front of the boiler, which is hidden away by a flap. The boiler controls allow you to increase or decrease the temperature of the boiler, as well as switch the boiler on or off. The display on the front will also show any fault codes if something has gone wrong with the boiler. To really get the most out of your new Vaillant combi boiler, you’ll need to install a Vaillant control. Vaillant boilers are at their awesome best when working via Vaillant’s unique eBus system. EBus is the language Vaillant boilers, and controls use to communicate. Through it, the controls can adjust the output of your Vaillant boiler reacting instantly to changes in the outside temperature, or fluctuations indoors. This means that your boiler is never using more energy than needed when it’s heating your home.

Size. The Vaillant ecoTec plus range are not the smallest boilers, although they will squeeze into a kitchen cupboard. If you require a boiler that can fit in a kitchen cupboard or a tight space, it’s essential you get an in person survey so the engineer can properly assess the available space.

Warranty. Each Vaillant boiler model from the ecoTec range comes with a standard 5-year warranty free of charge for your peace of mind. You can also benefit from an extended warranty of up to 10 years if you decide to install with Heatsy.

Energy Efficiency. The ecoTec Plus is an efficient and high-performance boiler. The range have lots of features that need to be properly set to suit your unique system during the commissioning phase of the installation. Unlike other boilers, Vaillant are less of a ‘plug and play’ kitchen appliance, and more of a well engineering machine. Parameters such as the maximum pump speed, anti cycle time, maximum KW and more can all be adjusted to ensure your new combi boiler installation is set perfectly for your home. The Vaillant ecoTec combi boiler range has an out the box ErP (Energy-related Products) rating of 89.3%, which is an A-grade for efficiency, this can be increased up to 98% when installed with an eBus control like the sensoComfort 720, so in addition to incredible performance, you will start saving money on your energy bills while playing your part in reducing carbon emissions.

Both the Vaillant ecoTec plus and Worcester 4000 are highly efficient and reliable boilers with many similarities. However, some differences may be important to consider when choosing between the two. Here are some key points to compare the Vaillant ecoTec plus and Worcester 4000 boiler ranges: Efficiency: Both boilers have high-efficiency ratings, with the Vaillant ecoTec plus offering an efficiency rating of up to 98% and the Worcester 4000 offering up to 94%. This means that the Worcester 8000 may be less efficient and potentially result in higher energy bills. Size: The Worcester 4000 is slightly larger and heavier than the Vaillant ecoTec plus, making it a less-than-desirable option for homes with limited space. Noise level: The Worcester 4000 has been designed to be very quiet in operation, with noise levels as low as 36 decibels. The Vaillant ecoTec plus is also quiet, quieter in fact than the Worcester 4000 and has been awarded a quietmark award Warranty: Both boilers come with a standard warranty that can be increased up to 10 years when installed with their respective magnetic filters. Worcester may be better suited to landlords, or investment properties. In summary, the Vaillant ecoTec plus and Worcester 4000 boiler ranges are great options, but Worcester is let down by using cheaper materials inside. With a history of leaking components that date back to the original Greenstar range, Worcester has not learned some of the lessons in using plastic inside well-engineered machines. However, the Vaillant ecoTec plus is generally more expensive and may be priced out for those on a budget. Ultimately, the choice between the two will depend on your specific needs and preferences.
