We don’t want you to waste your time calling us out to repair something that’s either not a fault or something you could easily do yourself, so before calling us have you checked the things below?

1. Have you got gas? It’s not a trick question. We get calls from customers who think their boiler has broken only to find when the engineer arrives that there is no gas. If you have a gas cooker or a fire, check they’re working. If they’re not, check your gas meter. Do you have credit, have you hung a coat on the handle, and it’s fallen closed? If the meters OK but you still have no gas, you’ll need to contact your gas supplier.
2. Is the boiler turned on? Again, not a trick question. It’s more common than you might think. Someone flicks a switch in the kitchen and an hour later you realise the waters cold, and heating’s gone off. Have a look at the display, are there any fault codes, is there any light? If not have a quick check for any switches nearby that are off or check for any switches that are down on your main consumer unit.
3. Have you tried to reset the boiler? Most boilers will have a reset button on the front near the display. If the boiler resets, it might be OK. You might still want to get in inspected, but at least you’ll have heating and hot water while you wait.
