We don’t want you to waste your time calling us out to repair something you could quickly fix yourself. So, before calling us, please check the things below.

1. Have you got gas? It’s not a trick question. We get calls from customers who think their boiler has broken, only to find that there is no gas when the engineer arrives. If you have a gas cooker or a fire, check they’re working. If they’re not, check your gas meter. Do you have credit? Have you hung a coat on the handle, and it’s fallen closed? If the meter is OK, but you still have no gas, you’ll need to contact your gas supplier.
2. Is the boiler turned on? Again, not a trick question. It’s more common than you might think. Someone flicks a switch in the kitchen, and an hour later, you realise the water is cold, and the heating’s gone off. Have a look at the display, are there any fault codes, is there any light? If not, have a quick check for any switches nearby that are off, or check for any switches that are down on your central consumer unit. We share more tips and tricks here.
3. Is the pressure OK? Most boilers nowadays are pressurised boilers on pressurised systems. They are called pressurised because they need at least 1b of pressure to operate safely and efficiently. 4. Is there air in the system? We get lots of calls for noisy boilers or boilers going on and off frequently and overheating. Sometimes, it’s because there’s an excessive amount of air in the system. Check your radiators. Are they hot at the bottom and cold at the top? Can you hear the water whooshing around the pipes? Is your boiler making a loud banging noise?
