Before You Call

We don’t want you to waste your time calling us out to repair something you could quickly fix yourself. So, before calling us, please check the things below.

  1. Have you got gas? It’s not a trick question. We get calls from customers who think their boiler has broken, only to find that there is no gas when the engineer arrives. If you have a gas cooker or a fire, check they’re working. If they’re not, check your gas meter. Do you have credit? Have you hung a coat on the handle, and it’s fallen closed? If the meter is OK, but you still have no gas, you’ll need to contact your gas supplier.
  2. Is the boiler turned on? Again, not a trick question. It’s more common than you might think. Someone flicks a switch in the kitchen, and an hour later, you realise the water is cold, and the heating’s gone off. Have a look at the display, are there any fault codes, is there any light? If not, have a quick check for any switches nearby that are off, or check for any switches that are down on your central consumer unit. We share more tips and tricks here.
  3. Is the pressure OK? Most boilers nowadays are pressurised boilers on pressurised systems. They are called pressurised because they need at least 1b of pressure to operate safely and efficiently. If the pressure gauge shows less than 1b, try increasing the pressure per the manufacturer’s instructions. Check out our helpful article here.
  4. Is there air in the system? We get lots of calls for noisy boilers or boilers going on and off frequently and overheating. Sometimes, it’s because there’s an excessive amount of air in the system. Check your radiators. Are they hot at the bottom and cold at the top? Can you hear the water whooshing around the pipes? Is your boiler making a loud banging noise? If you answered yes to any of these, try bleeding the radiators - we’ve written an article to help you here.

We serve all London areas including:

Bexley, Bromley, Camden, Chelsea, Croydon, Dulwich, Epsom, Greenwich, Kingston, Lambeth, Lewisham, Richmond, Southwark, Sutton, Wandsworth, Vauxhall.

Our boiler repair rates – clear and straightforward value for your money.

Should I pay for my boiler repair upfront?

Not the total amount. If the company you’re working with has a set diagnostics fee, they might ask you to pay that upfront as it’s a fixed fee. Unfortunately, lots of customers ask heating engineers to diagnose the problem. Once they know what’s wrong, they refuse the repair and refuse to pay the diagnostics fee. Instead, they either find someone cheaper or, worse, try to fix it themselves. You should agree on the terms or make sure you’re clear before calling someone out. If parts are needed, it’s fair to pay a 50% deposit before the engineer collects or fits the parts, then the remainder on successful completion.

My boiler is still under warranty, but the manufacturer refused to repair it, can you?

Yes, absolutely! Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for manufacturers to try and find any reason to get out of the warranty. If your manufacturer has refused the repair, we can complete it for you. And, if you give us a list of the reasons they’ve given you, we might be able to help you put them right so the next time you need them, they will be there.

How long should a boiler repair take?

The time it takes to repair a boiler will vary depending on what type of boiler you have, the boiler’s age, and the engineer’s abilities to repair your boiler.

Most faults should take an experienced engineer no more than 30 minutes to diagnose and then another hour to fit the parts if needed.

Many of our jobs are completed within the first 30 minutes without using any parts, meaning all you pay is the diagnostics fee.

How much should a boiler repair cost?

The boiler repair cost will vary depending on many things. For example, different areas within London will have different rates. The day and time you call will also impact the price.

Small independent sole traders with low overheads and no VAT obligations will often charge less than larger companies with employees and the requirement to charge VAT. In addition, some larger companies may offer a 12-month guarantee on all their work. In contrast, others offer just three and, in many cases, no guarantee at all.

Suppose you have an experienced boiler repair engineer from Heatsy who can spot the fault early and repair it quickly. In that case, you can pay as little as £99 + VAT with a 12-month guarantee and 5 STAR rated customer service.

Can a plumber repair my boiler?

It depends, are they Gas Safe Registered? Plumber and heating engineer has become interchangeable over the years. Still, the job functions and responsibilities of the two trades are very different.

Of course, there are some similarities in that both work with water and both work with pipe. Many heating engineers will also offer plumbing services, but if they’re unblocking your sink or repairing your gas boiler, they’ll be wearing very different hats.

Legally anyone who receives a reward or incentive, i.e., receiving payment, to work on gas or gas appliances must be on the Gas Safe register.

What happens if my boiler breaks down again after you leave?

Most of our boiler repairs include our 12-month guarantee. So, if you have any problems within that time, call us, and we’ll come back for free.

If the fault is due to something we have or have not done, or any parts we’ve installed have prematurely failed, we’ll repair it again for free.

Our terms and conditions set out everything that’s covered and both parties’ obligations to keep the guarantee valid.
